Interview with ONEDUO

How did you meet and start ONEDUO?
Steve and I met a little over 10 years ago, I was actually good friends with his sister, who had asked me to DJ her birthday party in her backyard. Steve came up to me and said ‘This is cool bro” and we’ve been inseparable ever since haha.

What inspired you to start producing music?
Mike: I’ve been DJing since I was 7 years old, and after taking that to the highest level possible, I thought the next step would be to start making my own stuff, with Steve being a supporter of dance music his entire life / Us trusting each other with our lives, we figured it would be a great experience to learn the craft of creating music together.

Steve: I always had an ear for dance music since my dad used to pop in the old Freestyle CDs in his car haha. When Mike asked me to make music with him it was a no brainer because of how good he was at his craft and the different things I could bring to the table to be successful. The idea of traveling around the world making music with your best friend is not something a lot of people can say.

Tell us something personal that no one knows about Michael? (Question to Stephen?)
Mike is actually allergic to tequila and one sip could make him super sick, which sucks because that’s my drink of choice haha.

Tell us something personal that no one knows about Stephen? (Question to Michael?)
Steve absolutely hates and refuses to eat cold cuts, haha. Which is hard for me because I could eat a sandwich every day.

How would you describe your personal style?
Relentless. Whatever we set our mind to, whatever goal we create, we will not stop until we reach, or surpass it, and I think that’s why we work so well together. We were raised in hustler mind sets.

Are there any other artists or genres that have influenced your personal style?
This is sort of a hard question for us to answer, I guess you can say we are influenced by everything. Anything we see and/or hear we kind of pick it apart and find things we love and/or hate about it and let it influence us how we feel is best.

What artist would you like to work with in the future?
Mike – A goal collaboration for me would be to have a record with Avril Lavigne, lol. That was my first celeb crush, I still rock out to sk8tr boy.

Steve- I’d love to collaborate with Bebe Rexha. She’s just such a talented artist and very easy on the eyes haha.
Do you have a favorite project you have worked on or a piece of work or
performing experience that you’re most proud of?
Our record ‘Illusion’ is one we’re really proud of. We wrote this one in a random condo in Connecticut with Jackie Legere and only had a laptop, monitors, and recording mic. We literally had a pillow around the mic when Jackie was recording to cancel out some of the background noise haha. We sailed through that record in about 8 hours and we feel every part just fit together like a puzzle. It’s also our biggest record to date, being that it charted in over 7 countries on Spotify & iTunes!

Please tell us the story behind your latest song It’s Not You?
We love everything about this record! This is a collab with our really great friends TwoWorldsApart & the lovely Delaney Jane. We actually reached out to Delaney through Facebook Messenger and she hit us back right away. There’s not much story behind this record, after we received Delaney’s vocal we hopped on skype with TwoWorldsApart (Arne & Ben) and went to town. Passed ideas back and forth until we got to what is now the record!

Moving forward in your career, where would you like to see yourself?
Also another hard one to answer. We set new goals almost every day, long and short term. We have a dry erase board in our studio and whatever goals we set we work at them until we can check them off. Our biggest goal would probably have to be a world tour though. That would be a major bucket list for us.

Are there certain places you would like to perform or create music in?
As far as creating music, there’s no defined destination. Anywhere we go that’s new to us is so inspiring. We usually create our musical ideas on planes / in hotels in new places! Performing – We would love to one day have the Main Stage at Ultra Music Festival!
